Ensuring Justice for Tenants in City Court Evictions and Help Desk Advocacy

August 21 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

$25

Every month families throughout Baton Rouge face eviction, losing their homes and communities. Often the children of evicted households will need to switch schools, uprooting them from their friends and their established routines. According to Eviction Lab, a research unit at Princeton University that tracks evictions across the country, “evidence strongly indicates that eviction is not just a condition of poverty, it is a cause of it.” Be a part of the solution by volunteering at the City Court Eviction Help Desk.

SEMINAR DESCRIPTION: Seminar offers a presentation on Louisiana eviction law, City Court advocacy and same-day tenant advocacy in Baton Rouge City Court through SLLS’s Eviction Help Desk program. It seeks to provide an accurate snapshot of the day-to-day operation of the Eviction Help Desk to facilitate participation by volunteer attorneys.

SPEAKERS: William “Bill” Bryan, Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, has been practicing since 2000. He is an experienced litigator and is SLLS’ project attorney for the Baton Rouge City Court Eviction Desk Project.

Laura Tuggle, Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, has over 20 years of experience in handling eviction and landlord-tenant cases prior to becoming executive director of the agency.

CLE: This seminar qualifies for 2.0 hours of CLE credit
