En 2015, heredaron la casa despu\u00e9s de que falleciera la madre de la Sra. Trahan. Aunque lograron sobrevivir con un peque\u00f1o ingreso proveniente de las prestaciones por discapacidad del Sr. Trahan y del trabajo a tiempo parcial de la Sra. Los Trahan recibieron asistencia temporal de alquiler a corto plazo de FEMA, pero debido a sus ingresos limitados y a\u00fan teniendo que pagar los pagos mensuales de la hipoteca de su casa, lucharon por mantener su casa fuera de la ejecuci\u00f3n hipotecaria. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Para empeorar la situaci\u00f3n, la compa\u00f1\u00eda de seguros contra inundaciones se neg\u00f3 a liberar las ganancias de la inundaci\u00f3n hasta que se completara la sucesi\u00f3n de la madre de la Sra. Trahan. Luego, FEMA neg\u00f3 una extensi\u00f3n de su asistencia temporal para el alquiler. Los Trahan se sintieron perdidos. Si perdieran tanto su vivienda temporal como permanente, no tendr\u00edan ad\u00f3nde acudir y terminar\u00edan en las calles. Afortunadamente, fueron remitidos al Proyecto a Prueba de Inundaciones para obtener ayuda legal, donde un abogado de SLLS r\u00e1pidamente entr\u00f3 en acci\u00f3n. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Comenzamos a trabajar en la sucesi\u00f3n de inmediato y conseguimos que algunos de los otros herederos donaran su inter\u00e9s en la casa para ayudar a la pareja a concentrar el t\u00edtulo. Luego, conseguimos que FEMA anulara su decisi\u00f3n de negar a las parejas la extensi\u00f3n de la asistencia temporal para el alquiler. Adem\u00e1s, negociamos con sus compa\u00f1\u00edas hipotecarias y de seguros para hacer valer los derechos legales de Trahan como heredero de la propiedad. Al final, se aprob\u00f3 que la pareja se hiciera cargo de la hipoteca y modificara los pagos del pr\u00e9stamo una vez completada la sucesi\u00f3n.
