Applications can also be expedited for other kinds of claimants, like those with terminal illnesses and military service members who became disabled while on active duty on or before Oct. 1, 2001. Here is a \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/compassionateallowances\/conditions.htm\">Complete List of Conditions | Compassionate Allowances | SSA<\/a>). More information about how payments are expedited can be found on Social Security\u2019s website,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/ssi\/text-expedite-ussi.htm\">Understanding SSI &#8211; Expedited Payments<\/a>. You should tell Social Security why you think your application should be processed more quickly when you apply. If you already have applied, you should call or visit Social Security to tell them about your circumstances. You can call the national number at 1-800-772-1213, but expect to wait on the phone for a long time because of large call volumes. Instead, you may have more success by visiting or calling the office nearest you.
