But FEMA does not pay for the rest of what makes a home comfortable to us.<\/p>\n<p>Second, FEMA can only pay up to $36,000.00 for home repairs.\u00a0 This limit was for Hurricane Ida; the amount changes yearly.<\/p>\n<p>Third, mistakes limit what FEMA pays. Somebody along the way does not count some of the repairs needed. Or they don\u2019t realize how much the repair costs. These mistakes can be corrected by filing an appeal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who can appeal a FEMA home repair award?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can appeal if-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FEMA awarded home repair aid but you disagree with the amount FEMA will pay.<\/li>\n<li>FEMA awarded home repair aid, then you appealed, and your amount is still low.<\/li>\n<li>You disagree with FEMA\u2019s decision to deny aid after you appealed your FEMA Home Repair assistance claim.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What are the steps to appeal my FEMA home Repair Award?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Write an appeal letter explaining why you disagree with FEMA\u2019s decision.<\/li>\n<li>Your appeal letter must include:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Your name, current address, phone number<\/li>\n<li>Pre-disaster primary residence<\/li>\n<li>Registration ID and disaster number (Hurricane IDA =4611)<\/li>\n<li>Place and Date of Birth<\/li>\n<li>Last 4 of your SSN<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Your letter must be either notarized (including a State ID), or it must include the statement:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI hereby declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.\u201d<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\u00a0You must sign and date your letter.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Attach your photographs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You should save your photographs in a\u00a0 black and white format to send<\/em><em> \u00a0them to FEMA. Make sure the photos are clear.\u00a0 FEMA only keeps photos in black and white format.<\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>Attach a Contractor Estimate<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u00a0<em>It\u2019s not required, but it\u2019s recommended that you send 2-3 contractor estimates. <\/em><em>FEMA needs documents that show them what they did was wrong. Your description of damage and even photographs do not tell them how much money you need for the repairs. An estimate tells them how much money you need.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><u>Your contractor estimate should have the following:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>The estimate should be on the contractor\u2019s letterhead<\/li>\n<li>The contractor should sign the estimate<\/li>\n<li>The estimate should include the contractor\u2019s name, phone number, and address<\/li>\n<li>The estimate should say how the damages were caused by the federal disaster<\/li>\n<li>The estimate should have a line-by-line break down of damages and costs<\/li>\n<li>The estimate should include the homeowner\u2019s name<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>As part of your appeal, you can request a second inspection.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can request a second inspection in your appeal letter if &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FEMA\u2019s award missed damage inside your home or<\/li>\n<li>A FEMA inspector did not say you could show them pictures or video on your phone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Is there a deadline to submit my appeal?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, there is a deadline for sending in an appeal.<\/p>\n<p>You have 60 days from the date on your FEMA determination letter to either mail, fax or upload your appeal letter and supporting documents.<\/p>\n<p>But if you missed your 60-day deadline, late appeals <em>may<\/em> be accepted by FEMA if you show a \u201cgood cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Your appeal and supporting documentation can be either mailed, faxed, or uploaded to your FEMA online account using the information below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mail:<\/strong> FEMA National Processing Service Center, P.O. Box 10055, Hyattsville, MD 20782-8055<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fax<\/strong>: 800-827-8112, Attention: FEMA<\/li>\n<li><strong>FEMA online Account<\/strong>: If your FEMA online account at <span style=\"color: #138a43;\"><a style=\"color: #138a43;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.disasterassistance.gov\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DisasterAssistance.gov<\/span><\/a><\/span> has been created, you can upload documents through the Upload Center. However, if not created, to set up a FEMA online account or to upload documents online, visit <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #138a43;\"><a style=\"color: #138a43; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__http:\/www.DisasterAssistance.gov__;!!PRtDf9A!7GDu9N4kZQi_zJusag0-xWbMTVbwkdWdSNwtc06LYQTojLFTZ5JJnE11BG39OwKXSk8$\">DisasterAssistance.gov<\/a><\/span><\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Do you need help appealing your home repair award? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This can all be complicated.
