Beginning June 27, 2026, unused SNAP, FITAP, and KCSP money will be removed from your EBT card 9 months (274 days) after the benefits were issued, even if the card has been used to make a purchase within the last 9 months!!
Benefits that are removed cannot be added back to your card.
How does the system tell which funds are older and/or newer on an EBT card?
- Each benefit amount is loaded with an issuance date tied to just that amount.
- The system automatically spends the oldest benefit first.
You should get a notice 30 days before the money is taken away. But notices can get lost or come late. Do not wait for the notice! Plan ahead!
What can I do to protect myself and my family?
- Contact LDH now to see if there is any money you still need to spend before June 27, 2026.
- Check your balance online at https://www.lifeincheckebt.com/
- Try to keep track of your benefits
- Spend the money on food items that will not spoil or go bad soon
Suggestions:
- Can goods: vegetables, beans, etc.
- Pasta/Rice
- Coffee/Tea
- Some Items in Jars: Jelly, pickles, olives, peanut butter, sauces, etc. (you will need to check the label)
- Some items for the freezer
