This position will provide legal advice, brief services, and representation to help disaster survivors recover from the impact of Hurricane Francine. Case types include FEMA Claims, assistance with other Disaster Relief Programs, Disaster Food Stamps, Disaster Unemployment, and other cases directly related to Hurricane Francine. The position will also require the development and sustaining of partnerships with other nonprofit disaster recovery organizations, long-term recovery groups, and other community stakeholders. Virtual and in-person outreach for Know Your Rights, legal clinics, and resource fairs will be required, which may include driving the Justice Bus. Active involvement in the Louisiana State Bar Assistance Disaster Response Committee is also a component of this position.

– Serving 7 parishes: Assumption, Ascension, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, and Terrebonne parishes.
– This position can be worked from SLLS’ New Orleans or Gretna office. Local travel to disaster-impacted areas and other work-related mileage is reimbursed at the federal rate.
- Staff Attorney positions must be licensed to practice law in Louisiana or pending exam results with admission to the Louisiana bar. The starting salary for a full-time staff attorney is $54,563 which increases depending on experience. The salary range for this staff attorney position is $54,563 – $90,563 with a maximum starting salary of $81,563. Bilingualism is a plus that receives extra compensation. Moving costs paid by SLLS are available.
