FEMA For Renters
FEMA offers benefits to Renters after an emergency declaration
Tips before and after the Disaster:
- Get the papers/emails that show where you live: lease, utility bills, other bills, mail.
- Keep them safe and take pictures
- Before the storm take pictures of your personal belongings: furniture, appliances, clothing, computers, work equipment and tools
- Go room by room
- Try to capture the items in the home to show before and after
- Make sure your pictures show both the item and the room, only use closeups once you show the item is your home
- If you evacuate, keep records of all your costs: food, gas, hotels/motels, personal items,
- After a disaster, if possible, take pictures of all the disaster damage
- Register with FEMA as soon as possible if a disaster is declared for your area
FEMA for Homeowners
Tips before and after the Disaster:

- If you have insurance, still apply for FEMA because there are benefits for under-insured homeowners

FEMA For People with Insurance
FEMA offers now benefits to under-insured survivors or those with unmet needs
Tips before and after the Disaster:
- Keep all the records on your insurance claim and file your insurance claim as soon as possible
- You can apply for FEMA during this time and we recommend you apply if registration opens up in your area
- FEMA will now help insured survivors who did not receive enough insurance money to complete their repairs, replace items or cover logging expenses.
- You will have to prove that you spent all the money on the intended purpose.
- So, if you received insurance money for home repairs, you must show that all the money was spent on home repairs.
- You will need to keep receipts of all your expenses,
- we recommend taking pictures of receipts or having receipts emailed whenever possible
