This staff member will be in the Family Law Unit in New Orleans, assisting in Domestic Violence matters, and is the first point of contact for clients seeking civil legal services
Duties include performing functions of intake and eligibility screening of potential clients, including but not limited to the following:
- Answer and process calls from potential clients and conduct telephone screening of each caller to determine whether they qualify for legal consultation; answer the phone and greet clients, screen, triage, and perform intake, and close client cases
- Input the application on the computer for legal assistance. Work to make sure computer records are accurate.
- Interview clients and conduct civil legal need assessments with clients.
- Maintain an ample supply of various forms needed for intake as required by federal regulations or firm policies.
- Set appointments for intake, making sure the client is given the option of coming in or calling for their appointment.
- Responsible for making sure that retainers are signed by every applicant except for those receiving advice and brief services over the phone. Ensure that clients are eligible for services
- Provide administrative support to the unit
This position will require a background check for Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) reporting.
Fluency in Spanish is a preferred skill for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduate. Two years of experience in the legal field or public education experience in the community. (Coursework in related fields beyond high school can be substituted for experience.) Excellent
This position is classified under Staff & Admin I Salary Scale. It is full-time and has a salary range of $32,625 – $49,625, depending on experience, e.g., 0-1 years is $32,625, and 15 years is $45,375, the max starting salary.
Additional compensation for bilingualism, commissioned notary, a paralegal certificate, and/or a college degree.
