How we may help

Government benefits our program may help with include:  Social Security disability/SSI; child care assistance; 'welfare' or FITAP; food stamps; unemployment compensation; and others.  Our advocates can:

  • Represent you before the federal and state agencies that handle different benefits, and in federal court if necessary, to get what you are entitled to.
  • Help you resolve problems with unfair or discriminatory treatment.
  • Answer questions and refer you to other sources of help.
  • Give talks to community groups or social services agencies about government benefits issues.

How to get help

All of our program offices handle government benefits problems.  If you have an emergency, we will see you as soon as we can.  We ask that you call first if your problem is not an emergency.  When you come see us, bring all the papers you have about your problem.

If you can't come in

If you are disabled or you cannot travel to one of our offices, call us to arrange a telephone intake interview.

Emergencies

You can lose important rights by waiting too long to get help.  If you have an emergency (a hearing or appeal deadline, or you are homeless and have no food to eat), call our nearest office and explain.  If you cannot reach us, come to the office nearest you
