SLLS Funders & Projects

SLLS' funders and the legal services they make possible
|
| |
Many generous funders, both public and private, support SLLS' work. Unlike most free legal aid programs, we still receive most of our funding from the federal government. However, we are proud that our support from state and local government, bar associations, private attorneys, foundations and corporations has grown in recent years.

Our partners in the legal community

The Pro Bono Project. In four of the parishes SLLS serves, private attorneys volunteer to take some of our clients' cases free of charge. These attorneys are assigned cases by the Pro Bono Project, which recruits the volunteers and tries to match cases with attorneys according to their location and interest. The Pro Bono Project also provides attorneys who interview and advise clients of our services.
The Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA). Every attorney in the state belongs to the LSBA. Through its Access to Justice Program, the LSBA supports many projects designed to aid legal services programs in Louisiana, including SLLS. Examples include projects involving technology, training of staff and clients, and bringing together many members of the legal profession interested in service to the poor. |
