Program News > SLLS receives funds to aid the homeless

SLLS received a sub-grant from UNITY of Greater New Orleans to participate in a collaborative effort to help the homeless secure benefits like Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid. This sub-grant allows SLLS to expand Orleans Parish service to the homeless in 2012.

The collaborative project, called the New Day SAMHSA Initiative, uses "SOAR" (SSI/SSD Outreach, Access and Recovery) to help the homeless apply for benefits.

Other New Day project sponsors/partners are the NO AIDS Task Force, NAMI New Orleans and the Policy & Research Group. Government partners include the Housing Authority of New Orleans,  U.SU.S.uuu the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services/SAMHSA,  the Social Security Administration,  the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and the Louisiana Office of Medicaid.
